Requirements
Mill-finish coil is a starting material, not a finished spec: the alloy and temper have to match what happens to the coil next, not just the nominal thickness.
- 1xxx: suits chemical and electrical uses where purity matters more than strength.
- 3xxx: covers general fabrication, roofing, and cladding.
- 5xxx: carries structural or marine loads.
- Wrong series or unconfirmed temper: for the intended bend radius or draw depth, and the coil work-hardens or cracks partway through the customer's own line.
Surface condition matters even though there's no coating yet.
- Oil film, rolling marks, or edge burr: look cosmetic on mill-finish stock but can telegraph into a paint line's finish or interfere with anodizing uptake later. Buyers converting coil to a coated or anodized product should flag that use at order time so temper and surface finish are confirmed accordingly.
- Coil set and camber outside tolerance: cause feeding and tracking problems on slitting or roll-forming equipment, showing up as scrap only after the coil is already running.

How it's processed
Mill-finish coil is typically fed directly into roll-forming, stamping, slitting, or coil-coating lines, or held for later anodizing or chemical conversion: the alloy and temper are set at order time to suit whichever process comes next.

Gauge is easy to specify and hard to picture. Compare it against a credit card.

- What temper should I order for roll-forming versus deep drawing?
- It depends on the bend radius or draw depth involved, not on a single default temper. Confirm the intended forming operation when ordering. Primealux Alloys confirms temper per order rather than shipping a fixed default, so specify the application and forming severity up front.
- Can mill-finish coil go straight into anodizing?
- Yes, but alloy and surface finish need to be confirmed for anodizing use before the order is placed. Different alloy series anodize differently, and mill surface condition affects clarity and uniformity of the anodized layer, so flag the end use rather than ordering generic mill-finish stock.
- What's the difference between 1xxx, 3xxx, and 5xxx for my application?
The right choice depends on load, forming, and environment.
- 1xxx: high-purity aluminum suited to chemical and electrical uses.
- 3xxx: a general-purpose fabrication alloy used in roofing, cladding, and cookware.
- 5xxx: more strength and corrosion resistance for structural, marine, or transport applications.
- What coil weights and inner diameters do you supply?
- Coils run up to 10 tonnes with inner diameters between 406 and 508 mm, in widths up to 1650 mm and thickness from 0.20 to 2.00 mm. Confirm inner diameter compatibility with your uncoiler before ordering, since mismatched ID is a common cause of line downtime.
- Is there a minimum order quantity?
- Yes, 6.5 MT per order, with a tolerance of plus or minus 10 percent. That tolerance gives some flexibility on exact tonnage without renegotiating the order, which matters when the finished coil weight depends on gauge and width variables.
